Job Profile: Director of Instructional Design

Job Summary

The Director of Instructional Design is responsible for leading the strategic development, design, and implementation of innovative, engaging, and effective learning experiences. This role oversees the instructional design team and collaborates with subject matter experts, stakeholders, and technical teams to ensure alignment with organizational goals and learning strategies. The Director drives the adoption of emerging technologies and best practices to enhance the learner experience and ensure the scalability of learning solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Strategic Leadership
    • Develop and implement instructional design strategies aligned with organizational goals and learner needs.
    • Collaborate with senior leadership to define and prioritize learning and development initiatives.
    • Analyze learning trends and emerging technologies to ensure cutting-edge instructional methodologies.
  2. Team Management
    • Mentor and manage a high-performing instructional design team.
    • Establish clear performance metrics and provide regular feedback to team members.
    • Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement within the team.
  3. Instructional Design Development
    • Lead the design and development of scalable, learner-centered instructional materials, including e-learning, instructor-led training, blended learning, and microlearning solutions.
    • Ensure all learning materials meet organizational standards for quality, effectiveness, and accessibility.
    • Collaborate with subject matter experts to translate complex concepts into engaging, learner-friendly content.
  4. Technology Integration
    • Evaluate and recommend learning technologies, platforms, and tools to enhance delivery and engagement.
    • Oversee the implementation and integration of learning management systems (LMS) and other learning technologies.
    • Monitor the effectiveness of technology-enhanced learning solutions through data and feedback.
  5. Quality Assurance and Evaluation
    • Implement metrics and evaluation frameworks to measure the effectiveness and impact of learning programs.
    • Regularly review and refine instructional materials based on learner feedback and organizational needs.
    • Ensure compliance with industry standards and best practices in instructional design and adult learning.

Qualifications

  • Education: Master’s degree in Instructional Design, Education, Learning and Development, or a related field.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum 8–10 years of experience in instructional design, with at least 3–5 years in a leadership role.
    • Proven track record of designing and implementing large-scale learning programs in corporate or academic environments.
  • Skills:
    • Expertise in instructional design methodologies, adult learning principles, and curriculum development.
    • Proficiency in e-learning development tools (e.g., Articulate, Captivate, Camtasia), LMS administration, and multimedia production.
    • Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
    • Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving abilities.

Preferred Qualifications
